We were established in Ireland in May 2005 and since then we have provided foster placements to almost 400 children and young people with over 150 foster carers.
We’re part of the Core Assets Group, which was founded in the UK in 1994 by Jim Cockburn, a local authority social worker, and Jan Rees, a foster carer. Jim and Jan are still very involved in the company, which now has over 3800 children and young people in foster placements in 10 countries around the world.
FFI has a detailed Statement of Purpose which provides a range of information for a wide audience that is updated annually by the FFI Board of Directors, or more frequently as required.
The company took the decision to start FFI because Tusla were referring children and young people to them for foster placements in the UK, as there were no suitable placement options available for them in Ireland. Jim and Jan felt that the best place for Irish children in care was with foster carers in Ireland. So FFI became the company’s first agency outside of the UK and has now expanded to provide high quality foster care in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Finland and Japan.
