Who Can Become a Foster Carer?

who-can-become-a-foster-carer

Enthusiasm, patience and commitment – that’s what you need to be a foster carer.

When it comes to fostering, it’s your personal qualities that count. We celebrate diversity and welcome carers from all backgrounds. As long as you can offer a stable, nurturing family home to a child in need, then you could be a brilliant foster carer.

What do I need to become a foster carer?

Firstly, you don’t need qualifications or experience in childcare. Although it helps, it’s not essential. In fact, many people choose fostering after raising a family, looking for a career change or being made redundant.

When you become a foster carer, your sexual orientation, income or marital status isn’t an issue. What’s more important is that you’re passionate about changing a child’s life and eager to make a difference.

However, there are a few things you’ll need to foster with us:

  1. You need to be over the age of 25
  2. You need a spare bedroom
  3. You need a full driving licence
  4. You’ll need to be available to commit to fostering on a full time basis (however there are exceptions to this; so please speak to us to find out more)
  5. If you’re fostering as a couple, you’ll need to have been together for at least five years
