Non-statutory fostering agencies

It's commonly understood that when a child is taken into care they are the legal responsibility of the HSE, which may then place a child with one of their foster carers. So what is the role of non-statutory agencies such as FFI?

The role of non-statutory fostering agencies

Non-statutory agencies are private companies that offer placements in fostering families registered to them. As a non-statutory fostering agency, FFI works closely with the HSE to deliver these placements.

Through our Team Parenting™ model of fostering, FFI offers a fresh approach to foster care in Ireland. We deliver an extended network of professional fostering support to the fostered children and young people, from which we achieve placement stability and positive outcomes.

Benefits of non-statutory fostering agencies

FFI has an extended and robust infrastructure, which allows the delivery of a more rounded support service to foster carers. This is evident in our Team parenting™ model of foster care, which enables us to offer placements for ‘difficult to place’ children or young people.

What's more, foster carers registered to FFI benefit from the feeling of enhanced commitment from the organisation, as well as increased access to support and training.

Regulation and inspections

As a Childcare Service Provider, FFI is subject to the strictest regulations and inspected by the Social Services Inspectorate. Details of external inspections can be obtained through the Social Services Inspectorate website.

Registering with a non-statutory fostering agency

Foster carers can either register with a HSE or a non-statutory fostering agency. It must be noted that foster carers can only register with one agency.

FFI welcomes all enquiries into becoming a foster carer, for both new and existing carers. Why not enquire online today?
